We hear that all kinds of strange and mysterious things happen outside of the two-block radius of The Stranger’s ivory tower on Capitol Hill—that’s why we don’t leave (EVER). But here’s some news for those of you who live outside of the apex of gays and ice cream:

Wallingford’s Alleged Gas-Money Scammer: Wallyblog warns neighbors of one man’s diabolical plot to hustle cash by asking drivers for gas money at the on-ramp of I-5 south and 45th Street. To play devil’s advocate, maybe the guy has 10 gas hogs at home and they’re slowly starving to death thanks to Mayor McGinn’s war on cars. Sad!

Queen Anne Gets New Crosswalk: Seniors celebrate by walking slower than ever.

White Center Fish Eviction: Here’s a sad new twist on the familiar neighborhood blog story of the loss/escape/theft of beloved cat/dog/hog and owners’ frantic recovery efforts: The White Center building that has housed B & D Aquarium for 18 years is facing foreclosure, the fish store is being evicted this week and needs a new home pronto, reports White Center Now.

Those Damn Poles Are Too Damn Tall! The city will replace a 71-foot utility pole at 12th Avenue S and S Stevens Street with a 55-foot pole (among others), reports Beacon Hill Blog, appeasing the 100 neighbors who’ve bitched about the pole for the past two years.

  1. I think you mean Seattle City Council’s War on Cars.

Because longer commute times, more congestion, and reduced car capacity is what the Death To Cars Tunnel is all about … And the Mayor is against such anti-car plans.

  2. You know, with Slog Happy at Vermillion and Questionland Happy Hour at Grimm’s I really believe that you guys don’t ever leave the hill. But neither do I, so I can’t blame you.
