Says weather soothsayer Cliff Mass:

The largest pressure gradient and strongest winds will be later in the afternoon…not the morning…for Seattle and vicinity. What kind of winds? Would not be surprised to see 40-60 kts over Puget Sound and 20-40 kts over land. Expect some power outages.

KING 5 predicts the mountains could get up to two feet of snow.

  1. i presume ‘kts’ means knots? as in nautical miles? for dopes like me, how fast is “20-40 kts” in regular old miles per hour?

  2. Remember when power outages used to be fun? Now it’s like being deprived of oxygen. Please, please don’t take my power away from me!

  3. pansy. I used to ski in snowstorms that dropped 3 feet in a day in 70 mph winds.

made for wild rides down Granite Mountain, I’m telling you, but many people at Red Mountain could tell you the same.

  4. I forget, did we switch from ells and fathoms (the distance encompassed by a man’s outstretched arms) yet?

I’ll just sit on this tun of butter while waiting for a pint of ale in the snow.

  5. Definitely picking up here on the Hill too, the smoke from the chimney on the apartment building across the street from my office is blowing almost 90 degrees to the vertical and the trees are bending in a decidedly northeasterly direction.
