D’oh! The trouble with infallibility is it raises people’s expectations of ya so high. A bitch can’t fuck up without getting shade thrown the world over.
Of course even if they did admit that Plan B is a contraceptive and not an abortifacient they’d still be opposed to it. The Catholic church didn’t get to be the biggest church in the world by allowing members to refrain from reproduction.
An oldie, but a goody.

@2 is quite right… it almost doesn’t matter to the church whether something is “interceptive” or “contragestive”. Neither one are acceptable to the church in strict interpretation.
I suspect the church may be interested in convincing people that Plan B equals abortion, because there are likely a large number of Catholics (and others) who are pro-birth control but anti-abortion. The link argued did a good job of arguing that Plan B is in fact, contraception, and not abortion.
Science/Logic = 1, Pope =0.
@2 & @4- the Dignitas Personae seems to say that the church has no moral stake in what happens before conception. Were I a practicing Catholic, and I’m not, I would view this document as clear moral permission to use contraceptives.
To be fair, a whole lot of women I know also don’t realize that Plan B only prevents ovulation. It’s misunderstood by more than just the catholics.
perhaps Plan B is misunderstood because of things like this? The nut balls that insist on fundamentalist rule can’t understand science so they make shit up (by telling us it prevents implementation) to make us think that sex is strictly for procreation and not God’s greatest physical gift to our bodies.
that was excellent. it clarified some things even i was hazy on. well written. thanks, dan.
That’s the crux…myth, superstition, and stupidity! “Every little sperm is holy…” What is sad is the poor and ignorant who can least feed and care for children believe this. The children starve. And the world’s population continues to grow beyond it’s resources.
I feel bad I wasn’t raised Catholic. That whole rhythym method thing sounds fun. The irony, of course, is that gay guys have more rhythym than straight guys.
