Probably, huh? So thanks to this unexpected side-trip down to LA on my way back to Seattle, um, it looks like I won’t be voting in the King County elections director race. Please don’t kill me, ECB. And, yes, I’m going to feel terrible if Pam Roach wins by one vote.

  1. Dan, I’ll go get yours and get it mailed if you don’t tell anybody how I’m getting my own vote in. I left my ballot at home!

Vote by Mail is clearly a conspiracy to deprive ADD sufferers and other procrastinators of the franchise. Henceforth, only planners, to-do listers, and people with personal business managers will vote.

Confidential to lawyer-Sloggers: can you vote via an attorney-in-fact?

  2. Dan,

Please stop providing “election fraud” anecdotes for paranoid right-wing cranks who are looking for any excuse they can find to disenfranchise people.

And yes, if Pam Roach (or David Irons,or Chris Clifford, or that other guy) wins it will ALL be your fault.

    That is all.

  3. HINT – you can mail the ballot from ANY post office in America or overseas.

Take ballot, mark on boring flight, dump in first box at the airport …

Duh, betting on Irons at my office. He ran a campaign and his name rings bells … oh well.

  4. I hate mail-in voting. It’s much more convenient to take a few minutes on election day to go to the polls than to have to scour my house looking for a stamp, find a place to put the ballot until I have time to mail it, and remember to take it to a secure mail box. Sure, I can avoid the stamp step by using one of the dedicated election boxes, but the closest one is an inconvenient drive away from my house in a direction I rarely go otherwise.

On top of that, there’s no way of knowing if my vote is even counted. At least when I went to the polls, I could see the machine count my ballot. And what about the ceremony of voting with other people? Even for a misanthrope like myself, that makes voting more meaningful.

This is supposed to increase the franchise? I don’t believe it.

  5. Another dog ate my lunch excuse. Just own it! Dan got it in the mail a couple weeks ago and didn’t make time to send it in. This crap about a last minute socal trip doesn’t cut it.

Anyway, now that Obama was elected, does that mean Dan will go back to his old ways in which he told other people how to vote but didn’t exercise his own franchise?

  6. short term memory probs?

no example for the kid – funny how good we are are at finger pointing with shrill name calling – and our own ox needs attention

  7. @11- I don’t know how things are done in WA, but down here in OR, it isn’t the Post-Marked date that counts for elections. Ballots have to be received by the county officials by 8pm on the day of the election to count. Slipping it in the mail the day of the election, especially from 2 states away, won’t get you diddily poop!

  8. PDX_Paulie, you’re right that you don’t know how things are done in WA. Here they just have to be postmarked by election day. The state law doesn’t give a rip when they actually arrive. Stupid law, if you ask me, but there it is.

  9. I miss regular elections. I hate vote by mail. I make my passive aggressive point by taking it to the election office on election day. In Oregon there is a rule that money ballots have to pass by 50% of all registered voters–so people who don’t vote count as no. Of course, they send ballots to dead people, people who have moved, etc. and they count as registered voters. Makes it hard to pass a school bond, library bond, etc.
