Transit passes + graphic design porn. YAY
my god, those things are gorgeous!
I always wondered why they made bus passes so visually attractive. I held on to mine from Pittsburgh in the 90’s and early 2000’s for a long time because they were so pretty. Kinda wish I had kept them.
They weren’t quite as awesome as these, though.
Those passes are beautiful.
The price for a weekly pass in 1931, 1939, and 1944 is the same: $1.
Baconcat, I somehow knew you would be the #1 comment here, and somehow incorporate porn into your comment. I KNOW YOU SO WELL.
I assume they were so (relatively) elaborate because they were trying to thwart counterfeiters?
Way cool post, thanks Mary! I collect antique tins and have a deep love of old-timey advertising art. Eye candy, indeed!
Those are awesome. There’s a MUNI pass art project doing the rounds here too—to be honest I’d rather just see the collection than see them incorporated into his art, but there’s still a lot to look at.
These would never be issued today.

Sadly, October is the last ever paper MUNI Fastpass.
