A former youth pastor at a Santa Margarita church has been charged with unlawful sex with a 16-year-old female parishioner and sending sexual text messages to her younger female relative. Shane Garrett Horning, 28, of San Jose, appeared before Superior Court Judge Karen L. Robinson Thursday on four felony counts of oral copulation with a minor under 16, one felony count of distributing lewd material to a minor and one misdemeanor count of child annoyance. His arraignment was continued to March 18.
Horning met the first girl when he worked as a youth pastor at Santa Margarita Methodist Church in 2005 when he was 25. Prosecutors believe that he started sending sexually suggestive text messages before engaging in sex acts with her in his home…. That girl did not report the sexual activity until 2009, when she learned that Horning had started sending similar sexual messages to her 15-year-old relative.
The 29-year-old former youth pastor at Hayworth Wesleyan Church who was arrested last week on sex charges was arrested again Monday, High Point police said.
Benjamin Douglas Caldwell, who also served as the athletics director at the church-sponsored school, was charged with 19 additional sex-related offences, including 17 counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, one count of statutory rape and one count of statutory sex offence.
We end with a poor choice of words in North Carolina:
A part-time youth minister will spend at least 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to statutory rape in Iredell County Superior Court. Judge Mark Klass sentenced Everett Long of Statesville to a minimum term of 12 years and a maximum of 15 years…. The case involved a relative of Long’s, who was 15 at the time of the offenses, said Assistant District Attorney Carrie Garvey. During the course of a two-month period in 2005, Long had sex with the girl while she was living in his home, Garvey said…. Long apologized for what happened.
“I cannot find the words to express how deeply remorseful I am,” he said. “I’ve made some mistakes in my life, but this is one thing I would give anything to have a do-over.”

Man, the balls on this guy. You gotta sort of admire him, really. You think he was working his way down? After he nailed her, he would have started sniffing out any 14-year-old cousins?
I know that I am supposed to think that all of these guys are the scum of the earth and should be castrated.
Having said all that…Shane is cute.
He’s damaged bads. But cute.
INTERVENTION
Everyone who cares about Dan
(and I know that is ALL of you butt lickers out there!)
will refuse to post comments on the “Youth Pastor blah blah…” posts so Dan will finally move on.
And maybe drop him a personal note encouraging him to resume counseling.
@ 4,
Really, Shane? Him you’d do? I thought Ben Caldwell was the hottie in that line-up.
I thought they were all horrible. As a youth of 16, I was frequently attracted to older men, but nobody in this line-up would do it for me.
I vote Shane.
As for the Shane Garrett Horning, I’ve heard plenty of good things he did and said… I think it’s quite possible to do both bad and good things at the same time. So, I can’t say he’s a terrible person, but he definitely has serious problems with self-control. His personal and sexual life doesn’t match up to a youth pastor’s. Nevertheless, I hope he’ll get some help.
