Oregon:

North Bend police have arrested a local church’s assistant youth pastor on charges alleging he had sexual relations with a teenage girl he met at a church function.

According to Officer Jon Bohanan, police confronted the suspect near Boyton Park, where he reportedly had arranged to meet the victim, at about 2:15 p.m. Friday. They arrested Damon J. Noel, 22, on charges of third-degree rape, contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, third-degree sex abuse, endangering the welfare of a minor and sexual misconduct.

Bohanan said Noel met the girl during a vacation Bible school this past summer.

  2. Those are some pretty minor charges there for that sort of thing, she must be just under the age of consent. It looks like a 22 year old and a 17 year old. Vacation Bible school is usually for little kids so it’s possible it’s one member of the staff dating another. I wouldn’t want the guy working with the teens, though.

    And it sad but true, nothing’s more Biblical than an old guy with a young woman. Following that book too closely makes for a creapy moral code.

  4. I dated a 21-year-old when I was 17… But we didn’t do anything illegal. It’s funny, all my church friends gave me shit because he was Mormon, but that Mormon boy was one of the most respectful guys I ever dated, and much more worried about preserving my purity than anyone else, including me.

  6. Problem in this case is that the teenager could be to blame. I’m 17 and I have fantasized about seducing strong-willed and idolized religious figures. But I guess nowadays that isn’t very difficult. And 22? that’s the best age. only 5 years older…

  8. If she was 17 she’d be legal in Missouri. These laws are so arbitrary. A five year age difference that young is certainly creepy and wrong. But illegal?

    I don’t think you should conflate molesting children with these “third degree rape” (wtf is that?) cases.
