Justin Krebs, the founder of Drinking Liberally, joins us tonight at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E., 8PM onwards, to knock back a few drinks and sign his new book: “538 Ways to Live, Work and Play Like a Liberal.” I hope you’ll join me in welcoming Justin to Seattle.
Back in January of 2005, when the local political blogosphere was still young, I read a post promoting the Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally, and instantly became enamored. Progressive politics can be earnest at best, and godawful tedious at worst, and I was pretty sure I wasn’t the only one looking for a way to make activism fun and social. So I promoted the hell out of our weekly gatherings on HA, and eventually they grew into an important part of the local progressive scene, where the likes of Chris Gregoire, Jim McDermott, Jay Inslee, Greg Nickels, Ron Sims, Gen. Wesley Clark, Ed Murray, Frank Chopp and others would sometimes stop by to have a beer with constituents and chat up the bloggers.
Today there are 230 Drinking Liberally chapters in 47 states and around the world, and just this year the Seattle chapter celebrated the birth of its first baby from a couple who met at DL. It’s an amazing story, so come on by and let Justin tell you about it.

Don’t think I can get there tonight … coughing, sneezing, other not-so-fun stuff from the cold I picked up.
Are there any other types of blogospheres who are still young? Slog certainly hasn’t aged well, but to be fair, with the quickening pace of cyber communities, all blogs have developed creases around their eyes prematurely. I say a great way to turn back father time is to include No More Proper Names, or Numbers, in Slog posts. It is doable, just not as much fun, without all the finger pointing.
Child: Grandpa Blogosphere, what’s it like to be old?
Grandpa B: well, son, you blame a lot of people, then you kiss alot of other people’s asses, then you shit you’re own ass, and have to ring this Bell here, for the nurse to come change your diaper. Over, over and the cycle goes…. with the occasional O’Douls that your mother brings. Everything runs like fucking clockwork around here. 0800-1100-1230-1530-1800 Over, over and the cycle goes.
Child: I can’t wait to be just like you, I hate freedom.
Grandpa B: Good boy, that’s what I like to hear.
On the same night of the month as the Seattle Skeptics meetup? McLame, sir!
