A couple readings and special events tonight.
Down at Elliott Bay Book Company, Elisabeth Hyde reads from her latest In the Heart of the Canyon. In this novel a rafting trip serves as the vehicle for life-altering experiences. For you or for the characters? Only by attending the reading will you know.
William T. Vollmann reads from his latest 1100 page tome, Imperial, at Barnes & Noble in U-Village. Vollmann chronicles the history of the southernmost county in California โ a hotbed of nefarious activities between the US and Mexico. Tonight heโll be chatting with Charles R. Cross.
Event-wise, at the Ballard Branch of Seattle Public Library is the continuation of the Itโs About Time Writers Series, featuring Brandon Scott Gorrell, Joannie Stangeland, Joan Swift, and Jeremy Halinen.
Then the reading/event of the night is the Opium Literary Death Match at the Rendevous Jewelbox Theatre. Ryan Boudinot (The Littlest Hitler), Matthew Simmons (A Jello Horse), Peter Gajdics (Opium8โs 250-word contest winner), and Matt Briggs (Shoot the Buffalo) will read while local celebrities such as Luke Smith, Mary Guterson, and The Strangerโs Lindy West will judge away. One author will actually be unmasked and killed in the ring!
The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.

I’ve missed this! When is Paul back?
Paul Constant said on his tweeter that he had a family emergency this week. Plus he just got married. I hope he’s okay. ๐
