Maybe T. C. Boyle is making a mistake by publishing quality work too often. If he waited a decade between books, we would stop taking him for granted. Instead, he puts out a good book a year, and as a reward, he’s not greeted with parades or widely lauded as a genius. His novels thoughtfully address controversial subjectsโ€”his newest, When the Killing’s Done, explores the ethics of environmental activismโ€”and his thick book of short stories, titled simply Stories, is the one collection everybody in America should own. 1. I had no idea that’s what T.C. Boyle looks like. I wish that I still had no idea that’s what he looks like.

I think I don’t ever want to see a another picture of an author again.
