According to Dan Brown himself, the sequel to The DaVinci Code, titled The Lost Symbol, will finally be published in September.

Oh, come on. I know at least one of you just did a little demure fist-pump when you read that sentence.

They will print five million copies of the fucker as a first printing.

  1. Is this the one where they prove that Jesus was really gay, but only married Mary Magdalene and sired a child to increase the popularity of his ministry?

  2. As a former book-seller, my heart goes out to every person who will be in the trenches on that dark dark day when the book comes out.

  3. Well Paul, I understand your annoyance at this (his books are pretty mediocre) but at least it gets people to READ. Just like the Harry Potter books, even if there are better things to read, it makes reading cool/interesting again.

So instead of watching the Biggest Loser for something to talk about around the water cooler, adults will be like “zomg, have you read the new Dan Brown book?” So I really can’t hate on him too much.

  4. @9 I dont think people should get points for simply physically reading. If that were the case they’d give out gold stars for reading tampon boxes and Lysol bottles.

  5. I thought Angels and Demons was kind of lame, but I am super excited about the amount of people who will be coming in to buy copies of this book. It will keep me employed for a while longer.

  6. @14, Exactly. Getting kids to read (anything) is perhaps a good thing, because it increases their reading ability, vocabulary and knowledge, but adults reading shit like this doesn’t accomplish anything good.

My cousin got me The DaVinci Code for Christmas some time ago, and while I didn’t want to read it, it just happened to be sitting around when I was looking for a book to read. I didn’t want it to go to waste, so I ended up reading it. It was hard to put down, but it is also one of the worst books I have ever read. It was like peer review time in high school. I never bothered to go and read Angels and Demons, and it’s one of the reasons why I refuse to read Twilight (after having read the first page). I’m already cringing at the anticipated “have you read the new Dan Brown book” questions I’ll get from some of the people I know.
