We stopped short of calling for SPD Chief Gil Kerlikowske’s
resignation after revelations about cops brutalizing black men and the
chief’s efforts to thwart citizen oversight. Why the reluctance?
Because Kerlikowske is most often a force for good. Kerlikowske, on the
job seven years this week (the average tenure of a big-city police
chief is two to three years), has confronted the state legislataure
about strengthening gun-control laws and gotten his force to respect
protesters (no serious complaints since WTO). And, as of last year,
Seattle has had its lowest crime rate in 34 years.
Blow Job
Chief Kerlikowske
