Much of Seattle likely cheered when Trump spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders was booted from a Virginia restaurant for being politically aligned with our family-separating, norm-shredding president.
But it turns out that if this same politically-motivated ejection had happened here in Seattle, it would have been illegal.
Crosscut reports that under a 2004 law supported by former Seattle City Council member Nick Licata, it’s unlawful to kick someone out of a restaurant because of their political ideology.
“Let’s fix that,” argues the Crosscut piece, noting that under this same Seattle law a local gym owner who banned a white supremacist from his Fremont gym in response to this Stranger story could find himself on the wrong side of the Municipal Code.
