Originally started as a celebration of the neighborhood’s fishing industry in 1974, this festival has expanded over the years to include an alder-smoked salmon dinner, a crab shack, a beer garden replete with Ballard craft brews, a lengthy list of food and artisan craft vendors, and music. This year's music lineup includes experimental country/folk rockers Blitzen Trapper, Nashville rock band All Them Witches, Canadian folk/bluegrass group the Dead South, and many more. Gluttons for punishment can enroll in the lutefisk eating contest, an annual competition to see who can scarf the most of the salty, gelatinous fish.
