FRIDAY

LIVE MUSIC

Jembaa Groove LIVE on KEXP
When a musician friend of mine visited Seattle last week, I suggested that they might want to check out KEXP. Their eyes immediately lit up—they’d seen dozens of KEXP’s in-studio videos online and loved the station. Luckily, there happened to be a scheduled session that day, and they grabbed a bike and headed over (and actually saw the featured musician on the way there). This Friday offers a similarly magical experience: head to KEXP in the afternoon and you can be a fly-on-the-wall for Jembaa Groove’s free, all-ages performance. I recommend getting there 45 minutes early to secure your spot in line to see the Berlin-based Afro-soul group. Their smooth tunes beg you to snap your fingers to the beat, so if you just can’t get enough, see them again at their 21+ show at Baba Yaga that same night. SHANNON LUBETICH
