And while we’re spoiled with access to Pike Place year-round, May still feels like the true awakening of Seattle’s market season. It’s a time when neighborhoods across the city revive their weekly spaces to gather around fresh produce, meats and cheeses, flowers, baked goods, craft beverages, hot food, and live music. So whether you’re looking to stock up on farm fresh and local goods or just want to wander around and get some secondhand socializing, read on to find the perfect market for you.
Ballard Farmers Market
Year-round farmers markets might seem like an odd concept (especially for growers), but markets like the one in Ballard prove that it can be done right. Few neighborhoods embody the “Sunday routine” aesthetic as hard as Ballard, and its farmers market is a big reason why. Running along the historic cobblestone stretch of Ballard Avenue, this market turns the street into a weekly sea of produce bags, coffee cups, and kids/sneaky dogs eyeing pastries. Operating since 2000, the market is over two decades strong and features one of the city’s most reliable market lineups, including sips from DD’s Fresh Juice, bites from T’juana Tacos, and plenty of farm-fresh goods from local vendors like Skagit River Ranch. Whether you reach it by foot, bike, or bus, or pay with cash, card, or EBT, this one’s reliable all year long. But don’t be surprised if you don’t see reusable dishware this year; due to funding constraints, the eco-conscious Perennial Zero Waste program is on pause for the season.
