His reaction was fantastic–I don’t think he expected it at all. And Jane Lynch, shoving him and yelling GO!! Amazing.
He was so surprised! It was so sweet, I cried.
He was really choked up. I loved the press interview he gave backstage too.
And now I’m crying. I’m such a sap.
i was hoping you’d post this, Dan. he is so cute i wanna pinch his cheeks!
He does such a good job on that show. And I loved Lea Michele’s reaction, she’s more choked up than he is…
(…you know, Dan, it’s okay, you can admit you’re a gleek any time now, there’s no shame in it…)
Have now watched that clip about six times and am reduced to wet laundry each time. What poise and what class Chris has. Annette Bening’s acceptance speech is another class act.
So fucking cute! You could just see him pulling himself together on his way to the stage, he looked like he was thinking, “hold it together, this is it, only one chance to get this right.” and he NAILED it.
I’m not a big Glee fan, but his reaction made me so truly happy for him (and Portman). Bravo!
Not to diminish it, but is it weird that you can’t really hear him in the song they used to play him on? They couldn’t pick one of his solos or one where he had a more prominent role.
I think his Defying Gravity would have been cool.
Chris Colfer was great, and I’m thrilled for him, but the real story was Ricky Gervais KILLING IT again, and the stunned reaction of some of the humorless prigs he was sending up — Depp and Jolie in particular. A minute of Gervais is better than all of film Hollywood combined.
Colfer gave the most graceful speech of the night.
@11 – his best joke was the one about closeted Scientologists. Oh, and I laughed my ass off when he called Bruce Willis “Ashton Kutcher’s dad”.
I didn’t think Depp looked that pissed off, though. I thought he had kind of a sheepish, embarrassed smile. Did they show Jolie’s reaction to any of Gervais’ rips on The Tourist? Because I would have loooved to see her face but it seemed like the camera people chickened out on that one.
Yeah, I don’t think Depp was annoyed.
I’ve never watched the show, I don’t know as that I ever will, but man did I go “d’awwwww!” at that.
#10, the choice of song wasn’t for him, but for Glee as it’s the song most associated with the show. After all, if we can’t hear him singing during it we REALLY can’t hear Jane Lynch, and they played it when she won too.
I’d have loved it, actually, if they’d played a song he isn’t in at all – Darren Criss singing Teenage Dream.
I read this story yesterday:
“I had a little boy, I don’t know if he was gay. He was 6 and no one knows they’re gay when they’re 6,” Colfer says. “He came up to me and gave me a hug and then broke down crying. Then I started crying. I got a message from a boy in Nebraska who said watching Kurt makes me feel like I’m not alone.

@11 Reminded me most of Colbert’s White House correspondents dinner speech.
It gets better, huh Dan?
That was very cute. He went all numb and had to button up his jacket still, because he didn’t expect to be called to the stage ๐
He doesn’t sound like a 20 year old though! I’ve never seen the show, but maybe his underdeveloped voice is why he got famous.
Aw, that was sweet. I don’t watch the show, but I almost cried watching that. Good for him ๐
he thanked EVERYBODY at FOX…..
He’s this decade’s Doogie Howser.
So excited for him! I love me some Eric Stonestreet too, but was definitely happy to see Chris Colfer win. His speech was precious! ๐
I really am liking how they are handling his bullying arc on Glee. First, no help from anyone, then friends step in, teacher steps in, Dad steps in, principal steps in, school board screws him, so parents take action and move him to a school where bullying isn’t tolerated. But we’re finding out that at the no-bullying allowed school, kids aren’t really welcome to be themselves so that school has problems too. It’s easy to police no bullying when all your kids are carbon copies of one another. I just think it has been portrayed really realistically, and I’m excited to see how things will continue to ebb and flow.
Canuck, you know “choking up” is pretty much as far as Lea’s acting goes, right?
I did love Gervais taking the piss, and wonder if Ryan Murphy helped Coifer with the speech. Very very nice.
I’ve never watched a single minute of Glee, but got choked up all the same. His reaction was so natural, you could literally see his brain freeze. “Wait, what? Really?????”. Wonderful, and his acceptance speech was pitch perfect. It does get better.
Oh gus, but she does it so well! And don’t think I didn’t notice your Heather standing up…be still, your beating heart…
and not to be an obnoxious thread derailer, but did you see that our good friend has a book coming out? (squeee!)

I don’t watch Glee either, but this whole thing was adorable.
I think Glee is crap and I despise the self-congratulatory nonsense of award shows but I watched the clip anyway and I must say I think what I saw was genuine surprise, innocence, and joy – for him as well as those cheering for him – and it was lovely (as was the simple clear message.
Now Ricky Gervais – there was some entertainment – I just love how he makes people cringe (and simultaneously laugh hysterically, myself at least) by saying pretty much what everyone already knows. He’d said he intended not to get invited back and anyone who’s ever watched a minute of him had to know what was coming… at least DeNiro seemed to have a good laugh
Thank you for the derailleur, Canuck!
I will happily hold my breath. That bit you linked to was better than anything I’ve read in ages.
I know, gus! I can’t wait, it’s been a long drought.
(I think the first two lines fit our horoscopes to a T, wouldn’t you say??)
Too true, and sort of comforting to be so accurately pegged, if “pegged” is quite the right expression any more.
Better you than me, darling…
A very nice moment, but it was annoying that right at the end of the acceptance speech, when he was really getting into the “fuck the bullies” mode, they cut to a crowd shot from the camera behind his back.
Very awesome. I hate-love Glee, but I’m very happy that he won, and he was so great up there. Searching around Youtube, I found a video where Colfer demonstrated his CRAZY ASS NINJA SKILLS on a talk show. This made me totally love him.
He is a strong, brave, kind kid from the Central Valley. I’m so happy he made good.
@34: I noticed that, too. I didn’t watch the Globes – is that how they filmed all the acceptance speeches?
