It’s lovely that the people behind the, um, super-popular movie Starship Troopers are taking a stand against child abuse.
All those tens of millions of kids who love the Starship Troopers franchise will take heart at Casper Van Dien’s declaration of war, too.
I just don’t understand how things like this happen.

Starship Troopers had Neil Patrick Harris during that awkward period between Doogie Howser and Harold and Kumar. The image of NPH reading the alien’s mind and declaring, “He’s afraid!” to the cheering human crowd is burned in my brain forever.
Amazing! When Gay and Lesbian couples step in to take abused children under their wings, the State often finds the abusive parent(s) worthy of having the child back. I’ve known a few couples that have tried to stop the cycle of child abuse only to have the state in which they live hand the child(ren) back to the abuse parent who wept and sobbed about how sorry they were.
Well… I think we can all now see why he only made a couple of movies and disappeared (despite having one of the most spectacular asses, ever).

Oh god, I love that movie SO MUCH. And yet, this ad is SO BAD. Did they roust him out of his single-wide trailer in bumfuck nowhere to do this? Was it court-mandated community service?
This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. (Okay, after looking at IMDb, it looks like there was a direct-to-video threequel last year. That makes a little bit more sense. Kind of.)
I had such a crush on him when Starship Troopers came out. Not so much anymore.

I love “Starship Troopers” for several good reasons, not one of which is my crush on Casper.

Makes sense. ‘Brass Eye’ reports that paedophiles are genetically more similar to crabs than humans.
Seriously, child abuse is not just about sexual predators. It doesn’t even have to be physical. Just leaving a child alone in the house while going out to work constitutes child abuse. This could be an issue close to Casper Van Dien’s heart from personal experience.
It’s still a cheesy ad, but if it gets people’s attention, particularly kids…
