Apropos of nothing, this Mythbusters video is incredible. Wait for the high-speed footage (super slow-motion) of the 650 mile-per-hour rocket sled moving front-to-back through a car as if it weren’t even there.

That was cool, but it eerily reminded me of the world trade center towers collapsing and basically just disintegrating entirely on the way down.

Another thing was the speed of that rocket sled, especially after the 2nd set of rockets kicked in. That was FAST!!! That’s what 650 MPH looks like, huh? Cool. That’s how fast the (human-driven) rocket cars go on the Bonneville Salt Flats in western UT.
I’ve seen 230 MPH from about 30′ away, and that’s pretty amazing. I’m sure 650 from, say, a few hundred feet away would be pee-yr-pants incredible.
Just think what would happen to your Smart Car…

ah i don’t know, i’ll bet it was cool to see, but how is this different than blowing up a car with explosives or shooting it with a RCP? So it blew-up, whatever.

@2. Exactly. And moreover in the wreckage of the car, as well, they found traces of thermite. Coincidence? Well let’s just say there are some people who would be happy for you to think so.
The strange thing is how just plain beautiful that is to watch. There’s something mesmerizingly elegant about the footage. It’s deviously fun, but it’s also a real work of art.

An RPG is a chemical process resulting in a violent exothermic reaction. This is a kinetic energy demonstration. Much less common, and much cooler.
/would occasionally get buzzed by jets doing Mach 2 at 200 feet; you don’t really see them go by, rather you get the sonic boom after muttering “wha…”

I was profoundly disappointed … but only because I mis-read the title as “CAT-Eating Rocket Sled”.
I just had to watch that again.
It’s such great fun to forget for a while about gay Somali pirates getting married and jihadists wrecking the economy, and just watch shit blow up.
With no loss of human life, of course.
Mythbusters is definitely one of the coolest (if not the coolest) reality show ever made.
