Fucking hell—if you see me on Joy Behar tonight you’ll realize why I started punching myself in the head when I thought of Cheyenne Jackson as I was walking out of CNN’s building in Manhattan after the taping. Cast as the straight male romantic lead in Xanadu, cast as the straight romantic lead in Finian’s Rainbow, cast as Liz Lemon’s boytoy on 30 Rock. Beautiful Gay Cheyenne Fucking Hotness Jackson. Christ, I’m an idiot.

also, gay ex-Seattlite you probably saw at the 5th Avenue…
Well, that’s elliptically cryptically … ah, loudyproud gay Broadway actors who aren’t Sieber for a hundred, Alex?
Is this a pre-joke? Is it worth watching Joy Behar to get the setup?
He was however cast as dead gay American hero Mark Bingham in United 93. In other ironic news, John McCain spoke at Mark Bingham’s memorial service back in 2001. Shame he doesn’t seem to be able to remember that a gay man helped save his life back then. (Hey, at least that’s what he said at the time.)
Is this related to the Newsweek column that Kristin Chenoweth shredded last week?
Cheyenne Jackson. Damn. I would drink his bathwater. Don’t much care if he’s batting for the other team. He is selling a fantasy that I am buying!
He’s a hottie!
Assuming you’re talking about The Kid musical? Him and Lucas Steele? Very hot. Also, here’s a link to the opening night:

scroll through to photo #10……dang, Terry is a cutie pie!
Very lovely. The world has such beautiful people to observe and that makes me happy. I hope he is as beautiful on the inside as his outer wrapping is.
Cheyenne is his name? he is cute as hell, but that sort of ruins it for me. this probably makes me a bad person.
unlearn! unlearn!
The Newsweek guy is adorable.
@4 I’m sure Mark Bingham would have preferred the other person who played him in Flight 93, Ty Olsson. YUM.
(Though, truth be told, neither one really looked all that much like him)
If this is about casting for The Kid, I’m going to eat my own fist.
And I’m sure you can, while singing the great Danny Kaye patter songs in alphabetical order.
You missed out on him when he was a regular at the Village Theater! A friend had to teach him how to smoke “like a straight man” for one show. He is SO FUCKING GORGEOUS.
Cheyenne and I were in a semi-religious theatrical production together when I was twelve. It was called “Children of Eden,” and it was about the flood and moses and shit. He played a peacock and I played a hare (my feet were composed of tennis rackets, it was sort of like “Lion King” meets “Stomp”). He was such a beautiful peacock, I can’t even explain. During the scene when he opened his wings, I worried that he’d give the eighty year old women in the front row a heart attack. He was so pretty. SO pretty. And backstage, he’d walk around wearing a thong and I remember being impressed, even at such a young age, by how proudly gay his butt looked.
Nice bank shot, Dan, is your usual self promotion. No mention of the kid? or the limo? You missed a few here.
4: He was however cast as dead gay American hero Mark Bingham in United 93.
Thanks. I’ve seen him on 30 Rock and couldn’t place where I saw him before. While not exactdly separated-at-birth types, he does remind me a lot of this guy.
Don’t forget the sort of maybe semi-gay Chad in “All Shook Up”.
And yeah, he looks all hunky, but give him a couple of good stage slaps and I guarantee, he’ll tear up like a little Momma’s Boy (Hi Chey!)
here is the link, if you’re curious as to WTF he’s talking about
http://joybehar.blogs.cnn.com/
If you want to see MORE of Jackson backstage, not “being too gay”, check out this video with him and Nathan Lane deep in the dance belt:

I wanted to say something clever but my brain seems to be stuck at “yummmmm”.
@19 Thanks for the link……and here I thought Dan was wishing he had played him in The Kid! (Guess my teachers were right when they told me not to ASSume things…)
PS @5280…Apparently, Dan does own something other than T shirts.
A little too Neanderthal for my taste. I prefer Cro-Magnon.
He’s even sung (in your voice) the song “The Kid” on the Jeff Blumenkrantz Songbook Podcast and talked about you.
The banging of the head is most appropriate. 🙂
The Newsweek guy has a weak thesis and no argument, and the more examples given, the tinier his thesis got: excluding Broadway, excluding TV. Excluding live action movies next? Sad.
Yet another example of a gay man playing straight: Matt Bomer on White Collar (and formerly on Chuck). This article includes the very nice pictures of him macking on his (now ex) boyfriend that circled the internet when White Collar started.
@5: I’m with you.
The first time I saw him on 30 Rock, I think I just goggled at the TV for a few minutes.
Also, I honestly had no idea that he was gay until I saw this. So take that, Newsweek guy from @19’s link.
@14: was that for Grease? That was fairly hilarious.
I also thought Guillermo Diaz from Half Baked and Weeds was an omission. He gets tons of work playing “straight” (and gay), even though he’s out. I certainly find him believable in either role.
Good Baby Jeebuz! That man is stunning.
thanks a lot, dan. this poor chicagoan cannot remember where the fuck she’s seen cheyenne jackson on stage. i’m hoping it wasn’t somewhere suburban. off to call my theatre maven mother-in-law..
nevermind.. it was all shook up.. which is why i thought it was bye bye birdie.. man, i’m gay.
My boyfriend is obsessed with Cheyenne. When I was in New York without him, I went to see Finian’s Rainbow just so he could live vicariously.
Yeah, I have a fond memory of Cheyenne when he lived in Seattle… After a night of dancing at the old Timberline Cheyenne ended up driving me home, but before I got out of the car he planted one on me and then started macking on me. I was dating his best friend.
