A tip from good ol’ Matt Hickey:

Tonight at Moe Bar they’re going to turn off the music so everyone can watch Conan’s last night on the Tonight Show. You should be there.

  1. I will only be doing 1.5 of those things tonight.

I would like to make out to Neil Young music, but that isn’t going to happen this evening.

Quick: name all the females that appeared on Conan’s shows this last week.

  2. Actually, I’m at Stumptown on Pine right now, and they are playing Neil Young. Bring someone to make out with. Then we watch Conan.

  3. SPOILER ALERT:

    SPOILER ALERT:

“There has been a lot of speculation in the press about what I legally can and can’t say about NBC. To set the record straight, tonight I am allowed to say anything I want. And what I want to say is this: between my time at Saturday Night Live , The Late Night Show , and my brief run here on the Tonight Show , I have worked with NBC for over 20 years. Yes, we have our differences right now and yes, we’re going to go our separate ways, but this company has been my home for most of my adult life. I am enormously proud of the work we have done together, and I want to thank NBC for making it all possible.

“Walking away from the Tonight Show is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Making this choice has been enormously difficult,” O’Brien continued. “This is the best job in the world, I absolutely love doing it, and I have the best staff and crew in the history of the medium. But despite this sense of loss, I really feel this should be a happy moment. Every comedian dreams of hosting the Tonight Show and, for seven months, I got to. I did it my way, with people I love, and I do not regret a second. I’ve had more good fortune than anyone I know and if our next gig is doing a show in a 7-11 parking lot, we’ll find a way to make it fun.

“Finally, I have to say something to our fans. The massive outpouring of support and passion from so many people has been overwhelming. The rallies, the signs, all the goofy, outrageous creativity on the Internet, and the fact that people have traveled long distances and camped out all night in the pouring rain to be in our audience, made a sad situation joyous and inspirational. To all the people watching, I can never thank you enough for your kindness to me and I’ll think about it for the rest of my life.”

“All I ask of you is one thing: please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism – it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere,” he concluded. “Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.”

  4. I could not possibly care less about Conan’s last show.

Sounds like kind of a dick move by NBC, but really, I never though either Conan or Leno were ever more than mildly amusing at best.

  5. “For some unknown reason Conan is like the King of all the middle brow Gen X types who infest Seattle and its environs.”

Go watch your american idol and cry while you masturbate in your loveless marriage of convenience/desperation, you crusty humorless fuck.

Soooooooooo are there any sites streaming this live?

  6. The fuck is this anti-Conan backlash lately? His Late Night show was actually pretty good the more his writing went totally off the rails.

Everyone thought he’d bring that weird ass 1230am comedy to the Grandma’s Tonight Show, and we got like 1/10th Conan, and it wasn’t as good. You can’t get away with things like Pimpbot 5000 and “Masturbating Bear” at 1130pm.

Last night’s Tonight Show was like vintage late 90s/early 00s Conan, totally bizarre. WITH A MASTURBATING BEAR ON THE TONIGHT SHOW, and a horse with a mink fur Snuggie.

I’m hoping he goes wildly out of his way to do basically a full episode of Late Night tonight instead of the Tonight Show with all the most offensive and abstract comedy bits, including Triumph.

  7. you can watch a live Stream here:

You need to click on the NBC link.

His Monologue was pure class. The Neil Young/Skynard fake rivalry hat tip was pretty cool. Will Farrell even wearing the Neil Young shirt like Van Sant did. I aeways forget Conan’s a pretty good guitar player.

  8. I could not possibly care less about Conan’s last show.

I care even less about your not caring than you do. Or don’t. Whatever, who cares?

  9. To me, a fan of Conan’s from the beginning, not a great final show, but a very good one. I wasn’t that crazy about Tom Hanks as a guest but Neil Young playing “Long May You Run” was an excellent choice and it was cool that Young said,
“Thank you for all you’ve done for new music.”

“Free Bird” was an appropriate final song — and it was fun to see Ferrell whack the cowbell — but it, and Conan jamming with the band, can’t hold a candle to “Surrender” and Conan running across the country in the brilliant cold opening of the first show. That remains my favorite bit of Conan’s Tonight Show.

His thank you to NBC showed class. And while I’m sure it’s hard for him to walk away from a show he’s long dreamed of hosting, and I was moved when he briefly got choked up, I can’t feel too sorry for him since he’s also walking away with $30-$40 million. It’s just a shame that NBC ever made that change. We could still have Conan on Late Night instead of the so-so Jimmy Fallon.

  10. Very funny shows this week. It’s a crime that a show this funny, compared to all this other shit on TV, is going off the air. Leno is far out of his prime, he can only go further downhill, NBC will suffer for it. Some culture we have here. Lame, stiff mediocrity has won out over wacky, creative, unconformed humor. So really, all the passion over Coco lately is not just about a tv show, I don’t think
