After It’s a Wonderful Life, Gremlins is the best Christmas movie ever. You probably don’t remember the 1980s classic about adorable creatures that run amok as a Christmas film, but when you’re watching it, it all comes flooding back. The black comedy is even more delicious with all the cheesy strings of lights in the background, and a central monologue about a fatal chimney accident gives the film its necessary emotional depth. If It’s a Wonderful Life demonstrates that Christmas is about other people, Gremlins demonstrates the American sickness of making Christmas about stuff. (Central Cinema, 1411 21st Ave, 686-6684, 7 and 9:30 pm, $5 adv/$7 DOS, late show 21+)

My favorite Christmastime movie has no explicit holiday theme: Uncle Buck.
I’d rather sing along to Willy Wonka.
Not related to the holidays, but Gremlins 2 is better.
Die Hard is clearly the best Christmas movie ever.
