Kiefer Sutherland has never been sexier on the big screen than when he played the leather-wearing moto-riding leader of the vampire gang terrorizing a small California beach town (actually shot in Santa Cruz) in The Lost Boys. Sutherland was fresh off Stand By Me, where he took on the role of a different sort of bully, one not as murderous or literally bloodthirsty as his David.
The Lost Boys is your typically great ’80s-era horror movie, infused with plenty of campy humor, some ill-fated (not entirely believable but so urgent and dramatic) romance (the love interest’s name is ‘Star,’ and she’s got a tortured past that makes her automatically intriguing), and a couple of stake-and-garlic-wielding pre-teens in classic ’80s dynamic duo Corey Feldman and Corey Haim (RIP). Watching this staple is an ideal way to kick off October and kick into the Halloween season, and tonight’s the last chance you have to watch it on a big screen, in Hecklevision (you can text comments while watching with other people who love it but also love making fun of it, and your comments appear Pop-Up-Video style as the film plays) at Central Cinema tonight.
