Director Lynn Shelton (of We Go Way Back, My Effortless Brilliance, and lately Humpday), local film darling and approximately the sweetest person ever, has two big pieces of news.

1. She’s been nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards‘ “Someone to Watch” award.
2. Her newest film, Humpday (“a bromantic comedy” in which two straight dudes get together to make a movie for HUMP!), has been accepted to Sundance 2009.
This is exciting for local film, and really exciting for Lynn. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Had there not been a standing boycott on sundance and utah i might be excited about this…
I know, right?!
I hope she wins it. If she doesn’t, it’ll go to Barry. Nina Paley? Yeah, that’ll happen.
This says she has been nominated but not if she will actually be going. Hopefully, she and other directors do the right thing. Utah = Hate!
Look how petty this boycott has become. Up and coming artists, instead of being congratulated, are ridiculed because of a bigotted view of a geographic location. A geographic location which has no relation to 1)Lynn Shelton 2)furthering equal rights. I wish I could have the fortune of living in a bias free state (we all know how progressive the entire state of Washington is.) Then I might be able to keep my nose high in the air. Wake up people.
Awesome.. Can’t wait to see it!
Another local film, “The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle”, by Stranger Genius David Russo (with music by “Awesome”) has also been accepted to Sundance.
Russo’s film isn’t in the official lineup (or at least I can’t find it). Is it showing out of competition?
petty my ass, the actions of the mormon church were petty. The boycott is desperate times calling for desperate measure. You don’t like it becuase maybe it’ll affect you. We’ll washington is far from utopian but is making much greater strides toward that goal than your utah and so I will walk with my head held high and ask you kindly to help us or bite your tungue in criticism.
@8 asking for help would be great, boycotting a geography to which i belong is counter-productive. And just a little tip, you aren’t going to hurt the mormons by boycotting what they probably consider to be heathen gathering anyway. And yes, petty, you can’t even congratulate an artist who deserves recognition because the festival exists in between Longitude: 109°W to 114°W
Latitude: 37°N to 42°N
