AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!
As part of the 4th annual Children’s Film Festival later this month, Northwest Film Forum will be showing Speedy Delivery, a documentary about David Newell, a.k.a. Mr. McFeely, the friendly mailman of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.
And at the January 24-25 screenings, Newell will be here in person! McFeely! Here! In his little blue Speedy Delivery suit and cap. WITH HIS MUSTACHE.
Something about this announcement has caused me to go insane.
I now cannot stop watching Mr. Rogers clips on youtube, such as this one:
And this one:
And this fucking business:
…which is obviously the corniest thing ever crafted by the hand of man, AND YET I JUST WATCHED IT THREE TIMES IN A ROW. The part when he opens the door over and over again through the decades!? GODDAMN IT. (Except also, I’m pretty sure that song is about sexy romance. Right? The part when he looks at me and I want to lose myself in his arms? That is called grown-up relations, sentimental youtube montage-maker.)
Oh, Fred Rogers. It’s such a good feeling to know that we’re lifelong friends.

Fred, McFeeley. They all creeped me out when I was a kid. Meow, Meow, puke.
One of the professors I had two years ago played Officer Clemmons on this show. Unfortunately, I don’t remember him being on there at all because I think I am a little too young, but he has one of the Trolleys at his house which is pretty cool.
I love Mr. Rogers and we played a wake for him at the Rendezvous the day he died. One of the coolest Marian McPartland shows I’ve heard is the one with Mr. Rogers’ band. Fred was bad ass.
Lady Aberlin gave me funny feelings as a kid.
Finally, Lindy has a subject that won’t overstretch her incredibly limited abilities. MisterRogers fucking A!
Dammit, Lindy, I’m TRYING to be an oh-so-hip, hard-bitten cynic so I’ll fit in with the Slog crowd, and now you’ve gone and made me cry! Damn you!!
Fred told me I was OK at a time when I knew I was somehow different…
it’s THIS clip that wins!

Until reading this post, it hadn’t occurred to me what an awful name “Mr. McFeely” is for a children’s tv show character. Or is it, awfully hilarious?
I love the little industrial films he showed, such as how crayons are made.
His show with Stomp was interesting. Their hipster cool melted.
Another great clip is his interview with Charlie Rose. As I remember it, Fred turned tables on Charlie and nearly left him speechless.
@8: McFeely was Fred Rogers’ middle name.
