Okay, I know I already posted about this last week, but the outpouring of rage regarding Charles Mudede’s Marxist reading of Toy Story 3 just keeps getting more entertaining. Just today, commenter Knat posted:
“None of the toys have [collector’s value].” THREE of the toys have collector’s value: Jessie, Bullseye, and especially Woody. Did you never watch Toy Story 2? It was the entire plot! Jessie and Bullseye are part of Woody’s franchise, which is a collection that one of the “villains” of the film is going to sell to a Japanese toy museum.
“Lotso…was accidentally lost or abandoned or something like that.” This segment of the film is even NARRATED, so you don’t need to interpret anything. The viewer is plainly TOLD that Lotso was inadvertently left behind on a family outing. Again, were you not even watching the film?
I completely agree with cubbybear @32: This is what happens when you read Marxist literature.

Why would Charles respond? He’s a troll. Trolls exist merely to piss people off by pulling stupid shit. This is Charles stretching his asshole via jpeg for the world to see.
Toy Story 1, 2, and 3’s most avid fans, in my experience, are men in their 20s and 30s. This blowback doesn’t surprise me one whit.

Sure. Shame on people for falling for it. And I did laugh my ass off at some of those comments. But is this what Mudede is for now? Trolling the goobers? Congratulations Charles. Helluva career arc ahead of you.
These little POV pieces are hardly heavy weight – so get off your high horse defending Mudede as “challenging the masses” or whatever.
His writing has a very predictable pattern and just enough of a thin veneer of academic jargon to keep the mouth-breathers reflexively typing “Louis Althusser”, or some shit like that, into Wikipedia.
Obviously the guys is waaaay past his expiration date for this little paper. Or they wouldn’t be exiling him to these silly little antics like het’n up the fanboys. I can just picture the giggles at the staff meeting when they assigned last weeks pieces.

As one slogger noted, Slog jumped the shark with that ridiculous post about Fnarf and WIS. This post, which is really just a post about a post, that has already been posted about (WTF?), is a death rattle. It’s a shame really. Lindy used to be entertaining. Now she’s just trying way too hard, which seems to be a Slog editorial direction these days…
