Bruce LaBruce may not have made the first gay zombie film, but he’s
certainly made the most substantial one. Built around the life and
memories of the titular alterna-zombie, Otto; or, Up with
Dead People
is a compelling mishmash of zombie drama, art-house
pretension, queer theory, AIDS allegory, vegetarian treatise,
hardcore porn, faux documentary, and a good, old-fashioned
homosexual blood feast. It’s insanely inventive and, for the
