“Tonight on ‘The WORD’ segment of The Colbert Report,” Slog tipper MK writes from another time zone, “Stephen took on the opponents of Ref. 71 in Washington State! He took apart their upsurd tv ads about ‘Scandinavia.’ There was a good clip of our Gov., Chris Gregoire signing the Domestic Partners bill.”
The Colbert Report starts in about one minute. Video when it’s posted.

Colbert Bump! Colbert Bump! Colbert Bump!
It was a typically brutal dissection of the opposition, followed by an endorsement.
Hopefully it will play in (our) Peoria.
What exactly is our Peoria, anyway? The Eastside? The other side of the Cascades? Things which are not King County?
The Word was brilliant.
The Hate That Dare Not Speak Its Name.
Perfect.
Drafting and sponsoring legislation is NOT free speech, regardless of whether it’s accomplished from the floor of the legislature or through a citizens ballot initiative, ESPECIALLY when your aim is to take rights and benefits AWAY from your fellow citizens…you fucking cowards.

Peoria would be our Enumclaw — maybe Bonney Lake (but slightly bigger).
I love “upsurd” so much. Thank you, MK.
@1 and 6 –
Don’t forget the entire 509 area code (east of the cascades). It’s a statewide referendum, not just King County.
@3 Exactly. “The Hate That Dare Not Speak It’s Name.”
Classic!
Since Approve 71 got the Colbert Bump, then that must mean we’re in for a landslide.
The constitution doesn’t guarantee anonymity to coincide with free speech. It’s like saying that you need to have the right to concealed carry in order to have a real right to bare arms.
One facilitates the other but is not necessary to carry out that right. And these are the same fucking idiots who praise Scalia for being a “strict constructionist”. WHERE IS YOUR STRICT CONSTRUCTIONISM AND CONSTITUTIONALISM NOW?
