The New York Times’ Michiko Kakutani reviews a novel (Andrew O’Hagan’s The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog, and of His Friend Marilyn Monroe) in the voice of Brian from Family Guy.

…I can’t help wondering if this O’Hagan dude didn’t take a little inspiration from me, Brian, in embellishing little Maf’s autobiography. I mean, how many erudite, liberal-minded, book-writing, talking dogs can there be?

Brilliant conceit? Or time for Pa Ochs Sulzberger to take the ol’ gal out behind the barn? (When you already live on a big farm, you can’t very well tell the kids she’s gone to live on one!)

  1. I’d imagine it’s cute and fun if you like family guy, and it comes across as an obnoxious advertisement for the show if you don’t.

  2. It’d be decent if she could even get Brian’s voice right. As it is, it’s basically a step below the Andy Kaufman impressions of Gerald Ford. (“Hi, I am Gerald Ford.”) At least his were funny.

  3. @1, your sentence construction signals that you’re calling yourself “anonymous and incoherent”. I know it’s a simple error, yet you must see how hard you make it to disagree.
