Back in 2005, Lisa Kudrow followed her 10-year stint on Friends by starring in The Comeback, a flawed but funny HBO series about a former sitcom star straining to make—guess what?—a comeback. Her would-be comeback vehicle: The sexy sitcom Room and Bored, in which Kudrow’s character is cast as the horny, tracksuit-clad upstairs neighbor Aunt Sassy.
Which brings us to 2009, when Courtney Cox is following her 10-year stint on Friends with this.
Co-executive produced by Courteney Cox and Bill Lawrence (Scrubs), Cougar Town is the single-camera comedy that dares to tell the truth about dating after divorce. Juggling a teenage son with her thriving career and budding love life isn’t easy, but before you know it, Jules will have you cheering, “Go Cougars!”
In better news, ABC’s Cougar Town (sigh) co-stars Busy Phillips, aka Freaks & Geeks immortal Kim Kelly. So hurrah for that.

Busy Philips? More like Busty Philips, amirite?
How is this not going to be a running spoof of the Cougar’s Den sketch from SNL?
I am gross and perverted
I’m obsessed ‘n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little had changed
I am the tool of the Government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you
I may be vile and pernicious
But you can’t look away
I make you think I’m delicious
With the stuff that I say
I am the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I am the slime oozin’ out
From your TV set
You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don’t need you
Don’t go for help…no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold
That’s right, folks.. Don’t touch that dial
Well, I am the slime from your video
Oozin’ along on your living room floor
I am the slime from your video
Can’t stop the slime, people, lookit me go
Frank Zappa, “I Am the Slime”
Gross.
Was Room and Bored meant to be based on Spaced? The title and description of her character certainly makes me think so.
Meh.
Lisa Kudrow’s character on Friends didn’t make sense…why would a hipster character like Phoebe hang around those suburban douchebags?
While the concept itself already feels tired and too late in the internet age (the whole “cougar” thing will be an afterthought by Christmas, and completely forgotten by this time next year) Cougar Town is a title that could only be arrived at by a person incapable of creativity, i.e. a TV executive. It’s so embarassingly on-the-nose and without even a second of thoughtful contemplation. So obvious. So terrible. Though I guess we shouldn expect Cox to be attracted to it after starring in the equally clueless Dirt on F/X.
@ 5280… Thank you. Frank was really prescient about that shit. ‘Flakes’ is another good one. Next time I head out to Red Rocks, I’ll buy you a shot or three (or a growler from the Iron Works in Lakewood).
yeah huhu
@ drewl: You’re on.
