What makes your Philly cheesesteak the best in Washington
State?

My Philly cheesesteaks are made every day from fresh-sliced beef. I
never ever use frozen nothin’, and our bread is identical to the bread
used in Philly.

Explain to me your obsession with Tastykakes.

Tastykakes are comfort food. When I was growing up, if I mowed the
grass, I got a Tastykake. If I did the dishes, I got a Tastykake. No
place in Seattle seems to have Tastykakes, so I have a monopoly on all
the East Coast transplants looking for something familiar.

How has the rest of Burien responded to this
place?

It’s been incredible. I get my customers from the airport, the
police station, the department of transportation, and, of course, all
the little old Italian women love my sandwiches. Everyone is a part of
the family!

Were you born with a loud voice?

I don’t even think I talk loud, but I guess I do. Us small guys,
we’ve got to shout so people will notice us.

You call everyone who walks in here “paison,” which is
Italian for “friend.” If an escaped felon came into your restaurant,
would he be greeted as a “paison” as well?

Two days ago, someone robbed a bank, then came in here and asked for
“some beer, to go.” Then he grabbed my menu and left. I went outside
and there were $50 bills scattered on the concrete and five minutes
later, all these cop cars pulled up. I couldn’t believe itโ€”I’d
called him a “paison” and he’d robbed a bank!

How did you know about that?

I know about everything that happens in
Burien.

Hey Paison!

  1. The only place I will generally order a Philly Steak Sandwich is at Jimmy’s Steaks in Philly. But when I walked into Hey Paison, (visiting from Arizona) and I saw the owner of Hey Paison chopping up the steaks, and mixing in onions and peppers, I knew I had finally found another spot! Ordered it, loved it! My daughter was with me had the spaghetti and meatballs, which was so good (of course I tasted!) I also ordered one of those to take home. Sandwich was so big and delicious, I had to have half of that wrapped up too. I have enough great food, (forgot to mention the double chocolate cheeze cake) to take home with me to last for 2 days, a full tummy, and happy tongue! Shop is cute, quaint, staff is tremendously fast and friendly. Highly recommend! Did I forget to mention GREAT PRICES?

  2. Ronnie welcomes you back with a “Hey Buddy, How’s it shaking” and you know it’s going to be another great sandwich. The open kitchen lets you see your sandwich being made. Just watching the beef sizzle for your philly makes your mouth water. Try the porkette, very lightly season, just right. There’s plenty of choices so everyone can try something different. Soups always available as is pasta salad and his cheesecake. Burien ain’t what it used to be.

  3. Hey Paison has the BEST New York style Subs I have ever had!!
Ronnie the owner is the best and makes you welcome the minute you walk in the door! I have tried several of his sandwichs and he is still coming up with new ones!! LH

  4. Delicious food and the most friendly people you will ever meet. Its like you are his best friend every time you’re in there. They love what they are doing and want you to love it as much as they do. Lots of choices and every sandwich or dish is made to order. They have home made cheesecakes too! Wait – did I mention they home bake the bread too???

  5. I don’t know what that nash guy is talking about, Ronnie truely values all of his paisons opinions and is constintly talking to people cracking jokes and just being an all around friendly guy who honestly is the only deli owner i’ve ever seen that actualy cares about the people who come in to his place.
