Confession #1: Some nights I sleep on the couch with all my clothes
on, the television on all night. I realize this behavior may out me as
a horrible, wasteful sloth, but I can’t help it. I find it
comforting.

Confession #2: I have been itching to try McDonald’s latest
creation, the Southern Style Chicken Sandwich, a deep-fried piece of
chicken served on “a fluffy homemade-tasting biscuit.” More
embarrassing than this, though, is that in the last month I made two
attempts to procure the sandwich but was unable to make it to
McDonald’s before 11:00 a.m., when they stop serving breakfast. I
finally had one last week—the chicken was pretty tasty, the
biscuit very dry.

I’d been considering writing something about eating chicken for
breakfast
this week when I received an official sign to do so: Last
night I slept on the couch, TV on, and when I awoke, the first thing I
saw was Mario Batali grilling chicken thighs on Good Morning
America
.

While I cannot in good conscience recommend going to McDonald’s for
a chicken breakfast, I will enthusiastically direct you to Seattle’s
KickN Chicken for a plate of “Tuffy’s Chicken & Waffles” ($8.50,
$5.25 for a half order)—fluffy, slightly salty, heavenly waffles
topped with hot, freshly fried chicken wings and drummettes that bear a
little crunch of cornmeal and the slight spice of cayenne. As far as I
know, KickN Chicken is the only place in Seattle serving chicken and
waffles
—and as far as I’m concerned, there’s no need for
anyplace else.
