Octo Sushi: It looks pretty nice! Credit: octosushi.com

Octo Sushi (where Crave used to be, at 12th and Pine; no details yet) and Genki Sushi (near the new Blick art supply on Broadway and Pine; from the giant Japanese conveyor belt chain, super cheap) are both now open. Anybody been yet?

  1. I walk into Trapper’s Sushi in Covington at 8:29pm. The red neon says open. On the front door, the specials are listed. “Monday. All You Can Eat Sushi Lunch All Day Long”. Great, I’ll have that I say as the waitress sits me. She asks my son and I do we want to sit at the bar…we say “ok”, but as we are sitting she says “It’s Happy Hour!”. Great, I say…what does that mean. She says, well, it’s not Happy Hour at the Bar…sensing this causes difficulty, I ask for a table instead. When seated, she hands us a variety of menus (now required in all restaurants…must have drink, appetizer menus, mult-tabbed main menu…) and ask (finally gettting it), so, since you’re handing us menus does that mean we can’t have all you can eat sushi?

    “YES, IT’S HAPPY HOUR!”

    Sheesh….

  2. I went to the Genki on Oahu with my mother & sister, and had a great time. I don’t eat fish, so watching them grab a plate, bite in and make a WTF? face over and over was hilarious.

  3. @4 shushi sammiches…it’s not hard to let people from other countries talk to you.

I grabbed some from Genki yesterday…it’s nothing spectacular but the price can’t be beat. Hopefully the service/organization will be better than their Queen Anne location.

  4. Last night I was walking by Octo Sushi, and I was very surprised to see the neon OPEN sign.

I was early for where I was headed, so I decided to duck in for some sashimi at the sushi place(now) closest to my place.

The sashimi pieces were good sized big portions, and the prices were quite reasonable.

I ordered yellowtail, salmon, and tuna. The yellowtail was amazing, the tuna was very good, and the salmon was just decent.

The guys working last night were all super friendly, and they told me that they just opened yesterday.

It’s a pretty big space too. I am very excited that they are in my neighborhood.

  5. Do they have any vegetarian sushi? The only 2 places that represent are Kitaro in Wallingford and Blue C. If someplace on the Hill started offering several veggie rolls that would instantly bring in a segment of consumers frustrated with current sushi options on the hill. Particularly if they are looking to set themselves apart from the sea of sushi places that are pretty much all the same.
