Tavern Law—in the Trace Loft building at 12th and Madison on Capitol Hill, brought to you by the gentlemen of the massively popular Spur Gastropub in Belltown—opens very, very soon, and people who love good cocktails are very, very excited. Look for anything with cranberry—chef Brian McCracken’s family owns a cranberry farm, and barkeep David Nelson knows what to do with carefully sourced ingredients. In terms of food, McCracken and co-chef Dana Tough will be making classics like oysters Rockefeller, the fabled Monte Cristo, clams casino, and more. Tick tock.

  1. I’m a little frowny faced when it comes to the constant yuppification of Capitol Hill, but the promise of Monte Cristos will, at the very least, draw me in for at least one visit…

  2. I don’t like ham, but I do love me a good Monte Christo. Turkey, ham, American and Swiss, batter-dipped. Light powdered sugar, no jam. and NO BACON.

Our local Irish pub chain adds applewood bacon, and it just ruins the balance.

The late husband used to make homemade Monte Christos that were worth scooping out your eyeball with a melon baller for.

  3. 6 Why? It’s local and they know what to do with food and booze. It will probably be a big hit and will liven up the 12th & Pine even further. Besides, not everyone wants to sit in a divey shithole. And it’s 21 and over, meaning NO FUCKING CHILDREN ALLOWED.

  4. THey are not serving the kind of Monte Christo I am looking for – the Cuban kind…. No more fun like that to be had in most big cities.
