We now live in a world in which Campbell’s tomato soup is not necessarily red. It is orange, for “Harvest Orange” tomato soup, and yellow, for “Sun-Ripened Yellow” tomato soup—I think! I suppose the soups inside these cans might still be red, or I like the idea that they might be, anyway.
This is not art, it is soup. Lily Tomlin and Warhol both would have something to say about this new spectrum.
UPDATE: Laura O’Quin forwarded me this great video just posted by Christie’s of Barney Ebsworth talking about the Warhol soup can (vegetable soup) that he’s selling now. Ebsworth lives in Seattle; can’t help but wish he were giving the piece to SAM; he’s given plenty, and he also gives to the National Gallery.
The only thing their tomato soup doesn’t contain…………tomatoes.
Well shit…now for some reason I absolutely MUST buy and eat these soups.
Does a tomato actually have to be ripened and/or dried in the sun to be labled “sun-dried tomato?”

The soups are indeed the colors advertised. It’s not that weird, there are different tomato colors.
