Fucking Seattle landlords. Greedy, rich assholes who are making this city unaffordable for working people, but more importantly, unaffordable for PIZZA.
First it was the Masonry in Fremont. What a beautiful space; fantastic pies and great beer from Fast Fashion in one place. But the corporate greed in Googletown was such that the rent became too damn high, and even with many great pies slung they folded. Then the neighborhood pasta / pizza joint Bar Cantinetta in Madison Valley. Owners of both mentioned that they actually love running pizza restaurants, but part of it was the landlord’s rent was just too high.
And now–now–fucking Blotto. Are you kidding me? They were mad successful, with waits out the wazoo, and their greedy Seattle landlord is selling the building. I am distraught, and hungry.
If those greedy fucks take Cornelly from us I will figuratively burn this city to the ground and make a pizza on its now affordable ashes.

@1 well I think the wage theft helped a little bit (past tense until proven present), but that seems like cheating.
Landlords who chase away proven, successful businesses almost always come to regret it later. Real estate is all about desirable location, and the availability of popular restaurants is largely responsible for driving the desirability of a location. These idiots shoot their long-term financial prospects in the feet with these idiotic short-term cash grabs.
As a die-hard Internet Contrarian™, I just came here to say that Pizza is wrong to blame its lack of housing on high rents, when invariably the true cause is drug addiction and untreated mental illness. Pizza needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror before pointing any fingers.

Pagliacci is a chain and owns its own buildings. It’s OK pizza but not as good as the places shut down by landlord greed.
I just checked; both Big Mario’s and Via Tribunali still operate on Capitol Hill.
