Whoa. The Washington Post just broke a story about one Jaime Phillips, a woman from Alabama who contacted them with a story about a “secret relationship” that she had with the Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore that ended with her becoming pregnant at the age of 15. But the whole thing was a trap—meant to embarrass the paper and discredit their journalism, set into motion by Project Veritas, a conservative organization known to make secret recordings of their targets to prove “liberal bias” in the media.
After Phillips told reporters her story, she continually asked them what impact they thought the story might have—and if they thought it would lead to Moore losing the election.
Phillips was spotted by Post reporters walking into the office at Project Veritas, an organization run by conservative activist James O’Keefe, whose sole reputation hinges on making hidden-camera videos of respected media outlets and deceptively editing videos to misrepresent what people say.
She also apparently had a GoFundMe account from May raising money so she could move to New York City and “work in the conservative media movement to combat the lies and deceit of the liberal [mainstream media].”
When her story didn’t quite check out, the Post reporter confronted Phillips. Here’s the video:
