This week, Seattle radio station KEXP is broadcasting from London, England, for its four-day celebration of International Clash Day, which happens this Thursday, February 7, all over the world. The station's Morning Show host, John Richards, started the event in 2013 to pay tribute to the English group's "message of inclusion, multiculturalism, pro-immigration, anti-hate, anti-racism, and anti-fascism," as noted in a KEXP press release. Richards conceived the idea on a whim, but it proved inspirational to Clash fans worldwide in record stores, radio stations, music venues, and even halls of government, and the ideologies the band championed remain as crucial as ever, especially under the Trump administration. With this year marking the 40th anniversary of possibly the Clash's most beloved album, London Calling, Seattle is springing into action with shows at Washington Hall and Tim's Tavern on February 7. At the former, Hotels, Guayaba, Mirrorgloss, and Dark Smith will cover songs off London Calling, while at the latter, Julian Stocking and guests will do the same. Light in the Attic Record Shop—which is located in KEXP's Gathering Space—is also involved in the celebration.
