Earlier today, Devonté Hynes—better known by his stage name, Blood Orange—posted approximately 45 minutes of music on his YouTube channel. Apparently, it’s the work of a rejected film score.

The track starts off full of eerie, sustained drones and extended cello notes before breaking into soft piano melodies with a hint of vibraphone. Later on, there’s timpani, flutes, chimes, and acoustic guitar.
In the YouTube description, Hynes writes, “I spent the last few months working on a film score, then I got fired. No hard feelings. Here’s some of the music. Listen & zone out if you want.” It definitely provides a nice background track for working (I especially like ambient music for those times I need to focus), but there still seems to be a slight hint of bitterness lingering behind Hynes’ intentions. Otherwise, why bring it up in the first place?
Hynes previously worked on the film score for Palo Alto, but the name of this current film has yet to be disclosed.
