If you could not get tickets to tonight’s Seattle Sympony Orchestra opening, where they’re playing Ravel’s Bolero, here’s a Bolero for you.

And remember, tomorrow is the Day of Music at Benaroya Hall. All kinds of music, all day, all free.

  1. The Symphony opening tonight was stunning, The answer to Elaine Stritch’s question: “Does anyone still wear a hat?” is certifiably yes as both lauded nouveau conductor Ludovic Morlot and brilliant cellist Joshua Roman both donned red-topped knitted caps for the cello concerto. During “Bolero”, Ludovic calmly walked off the podium, strode into the midst of the violin section, sat down and played along as the snare drummer kept it all together. The audience was packed and well fed like a starving Carnival of the Animals.

  2. Fucking brilliant. If the people stop coming to listen to your music, then take the music to them. I never, ever thought I would say this, but there seems to be some excitement and energy in classical music these days.
