Baltimore’s Dan Deacon is both serious electronic-music composer and goofy subverter of concert conventions, all contained in an übernerdy, roly-poly persona. Typically playing on the floor surrounded by his fans and conducting loony summer-camp games for them, Deacon also creates exciting tracks that alternately tickle synth-pop funny bones and swell into serious hypno-drone jams in the vein of sonic cosmonauts like Boredoms and minimalist masters like Philip Glass. Deacon’s shows are like some giddy, chaotic, alternate-world Olympics. (Neptune Theatre, 1303 NE 45th St, www.stgpresents.org, 8 pm, $13 adv/$16 DOS, all ages)

Yet another talentless “artist” endorsed by the talentless hacks at the Stranger who are hoping Seattle’s scenesters will continue to believe that they possess an esoteric “indie” esthetic. The emperor has no clothes. Indie music is what used to be known charitably as “garage bands”. At least the old radio/record label overseers used to spare us this garbage.
Have you ever seen dan deacon live? Its a pretty fun time. What would you rather have the Stranger suggest for this fine Sunday evening, oh wise internet troll.
please don’t make a fetish out of things. This or that suggests a “must see” event and when taken on face value it can lead to disasters. This page suggested a while back in the do this section – to watch the skin i live in. Now, leaving aside the merit of the film, it will haunt some people forever for watching it (esp on the big screen) and that is not fair. with these kind of blanket suggestions you are creating problems for the very thing you are trying to promote – art. be careful – the editor as well as the readers. and don’t spoil the fun for lot of us who know what we want. thanks.
Looks like Andrew Ratshin of Uncle Bonzai fame.
