We are all #DavidByrne checking our iPhone to find out what music we’ve been listening to recently. #PopConference pic.twitter.com/Yq7xCt43tb

The annual music nerd conference thrown by Ann Powers and her husband Eric Weisbard, two menschy rock critics and historians (and also my friends) just kicked off with a chat with Talking Heads’ David Byrne, who discussed his disco musical, Here Lies Love, which Rich Smith wrote about a few weeks ago (playing at the Seattle Rep through the end of May).
I love that David Byrne went through his phone to tell us what #music he has been listening to recently #PopConference @MoPOPSeattle pic.twitter.com/QuhYn8Lxto

The pointy-headed conference happens all weekendโthe full schedule is hereโand has a very pertinent theme this year: “Sign Oโ the Times: Music and Politics.” (Nice nod to Prince, too.).
Speakers /moderators include (full disclosure, I’m friends with just about all of these people) Robert Christgau, Michaelangelo Matos, Maura Johnston, Sean Nelson, Greil Marcus, and many more.
