Beirut’s latest will be out September 11 via 4AD.

If you could only see the state of my inbox. It’s a horrifying mountain of press e-mails and streams and downloads that I attempt to climb each day, only to backslide down that sucker like a mudslide just happened. I finally had a chance (ahem) to throw Surf on the speakers this morning. There’s not enough hours in the day. On the upside, if you’re trying to convince me of that ol’ “there’s no good music to listen to nowadays” argument, then GTFO.

What I’m trying to say is I’ve come to appreciate bands like Beirut who don’t insist on shoving an album down my throat every 12 months to keep up with the press cycle. Today, Zach Condon, Paul Collins, and Nick Petree announced they’ll be sharing their latest album No No No—the follow-up to 2011’s The Rip Tide—on September 11 via 4AD.

We also got to hear the title track. Stereogum called it “bouncy.” NPR called it “jaunty.” I’m going to go ahead and call it “frisky/bubbly/merry,” so we round out all the synonyms.

Apparently, No No No was recorded after Condon suffered from a mental and physical breakdown, followed by a painful divorce. He started writing upon falling in love again, which might explain the the single’s optimistic tone.
