Choklate

This ain’t just my philosophy, this is fact: Creation and creative energy are feminine, word to the goddess. So it’s only appropriate that as the beats and attitude thrive in area clubs and festivals (more on that later), there’s cutting-edge female representation, in fact, more than I’ve ever been privileged to witness. The flyest dopegrrls in town, THEESatisfaction, are rocking High Dive on June 10 with Weekend, which is Ryann Donnelly (exโ€“Schoolyard Heroes) cooing over beats from Champagne Champagne‘s DJ Gajamagic (aka Blood Brother/Past Liver Mark Gajadhar, Seattle music’s most influential polygenre player).

If you want to keep it on the Hill that’s only sometimes real, though, I’d advise you head to where all the ladieth are atโ€”Ladies Night 2.0 at Neumos on June 10. The second installment of electric wire hustler Lisa Dank‘s showcase features no less a talent than Choklate herself, breaking out of the genteel confines of the Last Supper Club to rock the Pike Street party. Also appearing: the world-weary downtempo/shoegaze biz of chanteuse Anomie Belle, the girls-rub-on-ya-titties (c. Pharoahe Monch) electro club-rapstresses Luxury A.K. (aka the duo of DJ L.A. Kendall and MC Adraboo, whose project with Sex Panther‘s Action Jackson, called Sugar Water Purple, is cool, Kudu-esque stuff), Dice, Marissa, DJ Colby B, plus Life with Blythe, Prisilla of them Cute Lepers, Seattle Peach, Blush Photo, and of course, the Dank herself. Hiphop breaking out of the goddamned hiphop scene, women in the audience, women onstageโ€”I do so love seeing where it’s all at these days, so keep it rolling like road-trip Zig-Zags. Dig dat.

Buuut say you just gotta be in a room full of dudes that nightโ€”there’s always the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony show at El Corazรณn on June 10; they’ve been here a few times in the last few, so the love is definitely flowing, as it should be for the cats who brought us “No Surrender.” Opening up for the brothers with the most (hair, ever) is Portland expat and current Seattle resident Luck-One, a sublimely talented MC in his own right. Before making his way to the Ciudad Emerald, Luck-One put out an EP with PDX producer Dekk called Beautiful Music that showcases his keen Nas-influenced (aren’t we all, kinda?) micsmanship and knowledge-of-self soul. His new track “More” hints at, yes, more good things to come, so check for him: www.myspace.com/logikdivine.

On June 14 over at Contour, check in with RC Tha Trackaholiq and DJ Peg for the release party for their First Round Draft Picks EP. The EP features MCs SK, Duranged Pitt, Peta Tosh, Bad Company Gang, Yellow Linez, and Young Fast, who will all be in the building to rock their selections. I’m definitely anticipating hearing Duranged Pitt bully some RC beats in Boss Fam Official fashion. But back to the lecture at hand: Ladies get in free ’til 11. (It’s called reincorporation.) And speaking of the fairer sex: Dyme Def‘s Sex Tape is in stores nowโ€”a coital concept collabo with T.I.T.S. Brand tees, it’s only appropriate that it bangs like Lester. Later. recommended
