So maybe you heard, but the cool half of Seattle is back from SXSW
in ol’ Austin, and maybe now I’ll stop being tormented by their text
messages. Geologic saw Bushwick Bill at the
Grayskul show; Sabzi was mere feet from our lord and
savior Ice Cube; Mr. Hill enjoyed a beer next to DJ
Pooh; and DJ Suspence saw Motรถrhead. Well, now
you guys can suck it! Enjoy your return to shitty weather, lame Mexican
food, and none of my childhood heroes! Ha ha, dicks.
But what else is cookin’ this week, you ask? Well on Thursday, March
27, the High Dive hosts March Badness featuring dem boys from the
Physics, Waves of the Mind, Taybot, and Know
Choice.
Then on Friday, March 28, you have three ways to go for the hiphop.
First is at the Vera Project, where Macklemore heads up an
(natch) all-ages lineup featuring World Rap Champeen and member of
Portland’s Sandpeople, Illmaculate. His Rain Check mixtape is pretty thorough; hit up his MySpace and hear the wreck he
catches beyond the battle circuit. Also on the bill are
Solstice, Sportn’ Life’s own Kingzmen, and the return of
the 206’s Ricky Pharoe, who’s been living in Long Beach, storied
homeland of the Dove Shack. If you want a slept-on SEA jewel, go
get his and Tru-ID’s ’06 LP The Key with No Lock, not to mention
Pharoe’s ’05 solo Civilized.
Also on Friday is the return of cult-favorite weekly Foot Traffic,
now at the Lo_Fi. This night serves as the CD release for
B-Girl‘s album Love or Fate, and features Alpha P,
Mind Movers, Jewels Hunter, Randy Hansen, and art from
Onesevennine and Rogue LaRoc. That B-Girl album is
another good comp from that Project Mayhem collective, pairing
MCs with B-Girl’s own electro-eclectic production.
If neither of those shows are you, may I humbly suggest The Corner,
going down in the cozy confines of the Rendezvous, featuring sets from
Grayskul, Cancer Rising, Silent Lambs Project, and
the night’s promoter, the one and only Candidt. Grayskul just
completed the video for “Missing” and all I keep hearing is it’s ill as
fuck… CR suck, but were recently added to the Sasquatch! festival
(where Blue Scholars and Dyme Def will also be
representin’)… SLP have a quick-fire mixtape about to drop soon…
and if you caught Candizzle at the recent Boiler Room party (shhh), or
listened to Street Sounds recently, you know his joint “Voodoo”
is on SMASH right now.
Lastly, I have bad news: Abyssinian Creole are breaking up.
Their final show is at Hidmo on April 1. Well fellas, it was a
good run. Much love to the homeys Khingz and Gabriel
Teodros in their future solo endeavors. ![]()
