If you were one of the multitudes who couldn’t get into the Comet last month, for reasons of capacity or age, to see NYC’s snarkiest sons Das Racist—I have good news. They’ll be back in the ‘6 at Chop Suey on Friday, November 12, for an all-ages situation, along with Helladope (this is their planet), hungry young spitters Kung Foo Grip (who, judging from their latest, the Make Moves EP, sound like they grew up on old Hiero tapes—in a good way), and yours truly on the host side of things. Das Racist’s Sit Down, Man tape is still burning—with all of its goofball lifelong-rap-fan insider humor and collegiate joking-not-joking race-baiting—and their profile is only increasing, as they get ready to go on a mufuckin’ world tour (with Muhammad my man) encompassing Korea, China, and homeland of the French, France! Meanwhile, check their new cut with their New Yitty comrade Homeboy Sandman, “I’m Up on That,” the best rap song to ever name-check F. Gary Gray. When can I hear these dudes going back and forth with MF Doom already? Or some of those fucking Odd Future kids maybe?

You heard him on J.Pinder‘s “Tougher” along with Spaceman and Sax G Whiz, now check Portland expat Luck-One on Sunday, November 14, over at Nectar, an all-ages CD release for his new True Theory Outtakes joint (True Theory being the full album, coming soon). Get it free at www.luckoneconscious.com. Luck’s hunger is palpable, his passion evident in the frantic pace at which he spits his street-conscious bars. A solid release, but the real gem on there is “More,” with its spacious feel and chill-ass hook, bro. Fuck wit Luck—plus D.Black, Sol, and 503ers Tx E all doing their thing that evening—and get up to speed. Not up on speed—terrible idea.

Good idea: downloading DJ Nphared‘s Red October EP. Known the world over as Grynch‘s DJ, the Dominicano Hellboy, and a real wiseass, Npha has let slip these four tracks fully produced by him, featuring some great appearances by some of the ‘6’s most popular spitters. There’s the aforementioned Norwegian (whose “Air Max ‘Em” is a dope ode to chicks with kicks), Sol (who murders the intro), a metaphor-happy Fatal Lucciauno, swanky Thig Nat from the Physics, and a couple up-‘n’-comers: chanteuse/bulldog Dice and the Good Sin (who’s developing into a real dope presence in the scene, IMO). Red October (I do think it’s funny that it dropped November 1) is apparently a preview of a larger LP to come early next year, but as it is, it’s a perfect appetizer. I definitely see myself running this one back a few times, as all MCs present swag it out appropriately, and Npha’s swinging soul-hop production provides exactly the kind of warmth I love to slap on when it’s this disgusting outside. Take that warmth that all this gives you and try to keep it within and remember it in these cold times to come, people. Hold tight. recommended
