Cheeky avant garde group Garage a Trois originally manifested in 1998 during a recording session for Stanton Moore’s solo debut. The Galactic drummer extraordinaire was joined by eight-string guitarist Charlie Hunter and Seattle sax innovator Skerik, and the trio laid down a weirdly captivating fusion of post-jazz, funk, and rock experimentation they christened Mysteryfunk, the four-song EP ranging from the wah-wah guitar and voxbox-soaked outerspace dub of the title track, to the drum and bass-meets-On the Corner darkness of “Chupa Cadabra.”
The three gentlemen of the O.G. Garage a Trois lineup have come back together, and this is their first time playing live in Seattle in this particular trio configuration in nearly two decades. Probably why all three shows of this weekend run (which kicks off tonight) sold out. A limited number of single-night tickets are being released starting at midnight each day this weekend here: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Also, looks like some tickets just popped up on Craigslist, too. Go get ’em. Media below to convince you.
