FRIDAY JUNE 24
KIMBALL COLLINS, DJ HUGGIE
Orlando, Florida’s Kimball Collins is one of America’s most respected progressive-house/trance DJs—which means he plays the dance-world equivalent of Nickelback and John Mayer. Collins spins a four-hour set tonight. Element, 332 Fifth Ave N, 441-7479, 9 pm–3 am, $10-$15, 21+.
SATURDAY JUNE 25
COLETTE
A popular, vivacious house DJ/vocalist from Chicago, Colette has just released her debut album as a producer, Hypnotized (Om). It’s a slick, candy-coated collection of song-based house that reflects the sunny climes of her new base of operations, Los Angeles. Colette’s voice is fairly indistinctive and not as sexy as she would like us to believe. Her production’s similarly characterless and unchallenging, a Vaseline-lensed version of house and R&B. Plus, she somehow blanches all the sensuality from “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On.” With Miss Funk and Emily Song. Chop Suey, 1325 E Madison St, 324-8000, 9 pm–2 am, $10 adv, 21+.
SILICON SCALLY, SATAMILE
Paris producer Carl A. Finlow (AKA Silicon Scally and a grip of other pseudonyms, including Voice Stealer and IL.EK.TRO) makes his Seattle debut, and if you have even the slightest interest in electro, you need to catch him. Finlow is a master of the stately melody and robotically precise rhythms; you could call him a Gallic Kraftwerk for the 21st century. Like those old Germans, Finlow proves that a studied rhythmic stiffness can yield some of the funkiest music ever. Finlow’s 2005 album as Silicon Scally, Dark Matter (Satamile), maintains his lofty standards. The eponymous boss of that revered NYC label, Andrew Price, spins a warm-up set, as do local electro savants Jerry Abstract and Greg Skidmore. CHAC Lower Level, 1621 12th Ave, 388-0521, 9:30 pm, $10, 21+.
TUESDAY JUNE 28
OSCILLATE V.2
Following its initial brief run at SeeSound, the brainy electronica weekly Oscillate reboots at the Baltic tonight with live sets by Paul Edwards and Electrosect and DJ interludes by Greg Skidmore and Veins (yours unruly). Expect a serotonin-boosting mix of minimal techno, IDM, electro, and dub. Baltic Room, 1207 Pine St, 625-4444, 9 pm–2 am, $3, 21+.
