At the age of 10, when the greatest thing I could have imagined was
to be a comic-book artist (which still sounds pretty good), I found an
ad for a class—probably at the UW Experimental College—that
promised to teach me everything I needed to know in preparation for my
life as the next John Byrne. I hung on to that ad for years. Sadly,
looking back on it now, I realize that not only did I never take the
class or become a comic-book artist, but the examples drawn by the
professor actually looked a lot like this poster. Minus the cool
hand-colored red details.
