New wave bombshell Terri Nunn introduced herself as an erotic renaissance woman with Berlin’s 1982 single “Sex (I’m A…),” the lyrics of which found Nunn casting herself as an array of sexual archetypes, including but not limited to a virgin, a goddess, a porn star, a geisha, a hooker, a babe, a slut, a slave, a drug, a teaser, your mother, a dream divine, and a little girl. Before that, she was an actor, auditioning for the role of Star Wars’ Princess Leia and appearing in 1978’s wonderfully terrible disco-exploitation flick Thank God It’s Friday. Then came 1986, when Nunn took Berlin to the top of the world’s pop charts with “Take My Breath Away,” the power ballad attached to the world’s only PG-rated gay-porn flick, and the song that would define (and pay for) the rest of her life. Tonight Berlin featuring Terri Nunn hits Snoqualmie Casino, where they’ll be sexing it up and riding on the retro. DAVID SCHMADER

(Crocodile) The nutty thing about Irish quartet the Strypes is they play the sort of over-driven blues rock and careening pub rock that their parentsโor maybe even grandparentsโprobably worshipped. These mugs are young (16 to 18 years old), but their musical predilections are ancient. Apparently, unlike many of their peers, they donโt give a damn about EDM, and thatโs kind of adorable. The Strypes would rather tear through the sort of moves that made director Michelangelo Antonioni want to cast the Yardbirds in Blow-Up or emulate British pub-rock badasses Dr. Feelgood. To pull off this sort of retro fetishizing, a band needs above-average chops and the kind of zealous conviction for the cause thatโs immune to criticism. The Strypes succeed on both counts. Hereโs hoping they go through a psychedelic phase next. DAVE SEGAL
